Paper Stop Motion Effect

This one blew up for a reason. It looks complicated — cutouts, textures, that distressed paper edge — but once you open the file you’ll see how simple the structure actually is. No keyframe animation at all.

The freeze frame technique

Every cutout starts with a single frozen frame. Right-click the layer, go to Time, and hit Freeze Frame. That’s your canvas.

Rough Edges gives it the paper look

Effect → Stylize → Rough Edges. Switch to “Spiky.” That one setting is what makes it look like a real paper cutout.

Zero keyframes. Just cuts.

No animation at all. You’re just cutting between frozen frames on the timeline. That’s the whole trick.

Your 10-minute challenge

Pick a player you love. Freeze a frame, cut them out with the pen tool, add the Rough Edges effect. That’s it — core technique in under ten minutes. Screenshot it and tag @cmdelavega on Instagram.
